I haven't commented much on the latest round of delays and distraction tactics from Jim Prentice, primarily because the combination of announcing weak targets and refusing to say how to meet them can't be considered news.
But now, Prentice is going several steps further than his predecessors in not only ensuring that nothing gets done on the national level at the behest of the oil patch, but also publicly insulting any province which actually dares to fill the Cons' void with its own steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And while the Cons have so far been able to get away with mere inaction coupled with empty promises which at least pretended that the issue was worth caring about, the spectre of a cabinet minister publicly leading the charge against any progress on his own file might well be enough to convince Canadians that the Cons are too irresponsible to be left in power.
