On know-nothings

Shorter Lisa Raitt:
Now that I think about it, somebody should probably be responsible for regulating vehicle safety. (aide whispers in ear) Wait, that's me? Why is this the first I've heard of it?

I should look it up but did not she say after the GM ignition switch problems that her Department would know have direct access to these recalls?

    1. I'm not finding much on that, and in fact Raitt seems to have made clear that nobody would be held responsible unless GM Canada knew about it: http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/lisa-raitt-wants-to-know-what-gm-canada-knew-about-recalls-1.2651993

But it does seem worth noting that she made a big show of introducing supposedly-urgent legislation on vehicle recalls: http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/car-recall-powers-sought-for-transport-minister-in-proposed-law-1.3095449

Not surprisingly, that bill was allowed to die after first reading: http://www.parl.gc.ca/LegisInfo/BillDetails.aspx?Language=E&Mode=1&billId=8013691
