Has anybody pointed out that if we ensure that the hungry have food, some of them might gain weight? That's why we consider it more responsible to force-feed them diet pills.
All for ourselves, and nothing for other people, seems, in every age of the world, to have been the vile maxim of the masters of mankind.

This country knows Australia has a living wage of $15.00 an hour and they are 20,000,000 people. It works for them. Canadians just do not want to pay their employees their worth. They complain about having to close their doors if they have to pay an employee that much which is not a lot actually. They still seem to be able to take expensive vacations around the world though.
ReplyDeleteMore to the point, a living wage also means workers have more money to spend - so any business focusing on a community-based model (rather than a Wal-Mart-style model of general undercutting and bullying) should be able to make a living wage work.
