  1. With respect to the "public good", I hope that NDP leaders will focus on the fact that Tar Sands expansion, wherever the bitumen is refined, will make it impossible for Canada to meet its' commitment to GHG reductions under the Copenhagen accord.

    A fair point to be sure. But I'd think that also serves as an argument to recognize both our control over and our responsibility for our own resources - rather than simply shipping it elsewhere and feigning helplessness.

Agreed, we are responsible for the exporting as well as the extraction of Tar Sands oil.   However, IMO the emphasis should be on placing a moratorium on expanding production until, if ever, technology is developed, to control emissions and pollution.   I always understood that to be the environmental policy of the NDP, and I hope it still is.
