Pop quiz

Yes, the Cons' spinners are doing their damndest to try to save Tony Clement's political hide. But since they don't seem to have noticed that their explanation raises more questions than it answers, let's test the theory:

Explain why a cabinet minister's constituency office would have any reason to serve as a "mail box" for applications to a government department. Show your work.

It's almost a shame Clement may be the first big name to fall, of all of the Harperites, he's one who is least terrible. Kenney or Oda would make much better inmates at our new prisons.

  2. Can't claim to be much of a fan of Clement either, the occasional witty tweet aside. And indeed based on his range of cabinet positions, I'd think he's managed to do more harm in more roles than almost anybody else in Harper's government.

Though that leads to the area where Clement's current trouble is in a sense somewhat of a shame: in a more just world he'd meet his political end based on policy choices like ending any enforcement of the Canada Health Act and torching the long-form census, rather than a run-of-the-mill patronage scandal. But at this point I'll settle for any lesson that convinces Con MPs that they're better off following rules than abusing them.
